An Introduction from the Head Teacher
Mr Andrew George
Thank you for taking the time to find out about The Kimberley School. I am tremendously proud to be the Head Teacher of this great school and I am looking forward to working with you for many years to come.
As the new Head Teacher of this great school my priority will be to ensure that behaviour is good; students achieve outstanding academic exam results; and they have access to a vast range of exciting opportunities outside of the classroom that help prepare them for a successful adult life.
Choosing a secondary school for your child is one of the most important decisions that you will make as a parent or carer. My own children attend a Nottinghamshire secondary school and, having been through this process twice in the last few years, I understand the questions you will all be asking.
You will want to know that you your child will be safe and happy. This is my priority too and you will be pleased to know that in our most recent parent survey 95% of current parents say their child is happy here and 97% feel they are safe. They should know!
You will want your child to grow up in our community with clear values and a strong sense of belonging. For this reason, we take every opportunity to celebrate each other’s achievements, take great pride in our uniform, including the badge which was adapted to remember the sacrifice of our local predecessors, and keep our rules to a minimum but stand firmly by those we do have!
You will want your child to do well in their studies and here at The Kimberley School we have GCSE results which exceed national averages in many of our subjects, A level results which are the among the best in Nottinghamshire and past students who are now in universities and apprenticeships, training in all manner of exciting fields from medicine to grounds maintenance.
I hope this is just the start of your relationship with us and that you will trust us to ensure the next step in your child’s learning is exciting, motivating, challenging
About The Kimberley School
The Kimberley School is a popular school serving the community in and around the town of Kimberley in Nottinghamshire.
In September 2012 the school acquired ‘Academy Status’, having previously been a Foundation School and a Specialist Technology College.
An ‘Expressive Arts’ block, with 4 Art rooms, a Drama studio and Media Studies room opened in January 2005.
Under the Government’s ‘New Deal for Schools’ initiative, a Design/Technology building was opened in 2002. The building contains eleven specialist rooms for Design/Technology (food, electronics, graphics, textiles, photography and workshops) and a large Learning Resource Centre (LRC). The LRC contains ICT facilities and a private study area for the Sixth Form as well as housing library resources. Science laboratories were re-furbished at this time, providing ten modern laboratories.
The school has large playing fields and boasts a full size synthetic hockey pitch for all year round use. We enjoy use of the Leisure Centre situated on our site, which has a large sports hall, swimming pool and fitness gym.
Around 1320 pupils attend the school with 155 following Sixth Form courses, including 20+ subjects at G.C.E. AS/A2 level (including Advanced Vocational Qualifications).
The school has developed strongly over the last few years and attracts a significant number of pupils from outside its traditional area. Levels of achievement are good and improving and the school prides itself on aiming to meet the needs of all children.
We have 85 teachers on the staff, fully qualified in their specialist areas, supported by a team of over 60 staff, including teaching assistants, administrative, clerical, technical, domestic and care staff. Catering services, cleaning, and grounds maintenance are provided through external contracts.
